About the Game

RESTRICTED SIGNAL DETECTED: PROJECTING INTO SECTOR 7

STATUS BRIEFING (LP-MAN-1993-S7):

On January 12, 1993, the carrier-wave quantum reactor inside Sector 7 went critical. The physical facility and onsite staff did not explode—they experienced a spatial phase-shift, melting down and compressing into a monospaced digital grid. The steel, concrete, and the air itself now exist only as ASCII coordinates.

The criticality ruptured the dimensional boundary, opening a direct corridor to the Backrooms. Anomalies are bleeding through these tears, migrating directly into our monospace coordinate grid.

Project your consciousness via the T-Link Neural Bridge from a cryogenic isolation tank into this glitched, collapsing spatial lattice. Calibrate the terminals, lock onto carrier frequencies, and escape before your synaptic link collapses.

OPERATIONAL PROTOCOLS (GAME MODES)

Multiplayer Sync Protocol (Steam P2P Co-op)

  • Lobbies & Matchmaking: Host private sessions or join public lobbies via Steam P2P.

  • Co-op Calibration: Play with up to 4 players. Coordinate tasks—have one player keep eyes locked on anomalies while others hack terminal nodes.

  • Spectator Loopback: If the host dies or disconnects, the lobby does not crash or softlock. The host's background game state engine keeps compiling coordinates and syncing clients.

  • Steam Leaderboards: Post survival times and high scores to show off.

Solo Protocol (Single-Player Hacking & Survival)

Drop into sequential runs to collect logs, find upgrades, and survive.

  • Decryption Loop: The exit hatch is locked. Find Clue Terminals and hack them (or use Bypass Keys) to piece together the alphabetical password to escape.

  • Suit Upgrades: Spend XP between runs to permanently upgrade your battery cell, sanity dampeners, move speed, radar duration, hacking speed, passive armor, and cognitive shield capacity (Psychic Aegis).

  • Credit Shop: Collect Data Cores and logs during runs to buy supplies at Wall CRT Terminals: battery refills, sanity pills, decoys, bypass keys, and shield boosters.

  • Steam Cloud Support: Full save sync for upgrades and run progress.

Infinitum Protocol (Endless Compression)

Survive procedurally generated layouts under active structural collapse.

  • Data Quota: Grab the target amount of Data Cores on each floor to unlock the escape hatch.

  • Stability Cascade: The floor stability decays constantly. At 0%, a total cascade failure triggers, turning anomalies hyper-aggressive and draining your sanity.

  • Hazards: Watch out for Pitch Black Zones (radar scans disabled, 2.5x sanity drain) and Radar Jamming Fields (jams the HUD map).

  • Run-Specific Upgrades: Spend endless run credits at the elevator shop on temporary suit buffs (battery, sanity dampeners, speed, radar, decoys, shield).

T-LINK CONTAINMENT SUIT BIOMETRICS

  • Flashlight Battery: Toggle your light (F) to see. It drains power, and enemies track the light beam footprint. Turn it off to hide your signal and break chase loops.

  • Psychic Shield: The suit shield absorbs 90% of incoming sanity damage. It automatically recharges up to 50% near tube lights and beacons. If it breaks, you take full sanity damage. Boosters reload +50% capacity.

  • Decoy Charges: Drop decoys (Q) to draw nearby hostiles (12-cell radius) away from your position for 15 seconds.

  • Sanity & Death: Darkness, anomalies, and corrosive sludge rot your sanity. Reach 0% sanity or let your uplink timer drop to zero, and the run ends.

  • Uplink Timer: Standard 90-second link per floor (purge static at terminals to boost it to 120s). The HUD flashes and warnings beep faster when you have less than 10 seconds remaining.

THE ANOMALIES

  • Anomaly-01 (Seeker): Freezes/slows to a crawl when you look directly at it. Turn away, and it charges at hyper-speed. Back away slowly while keeping eye contact.

  • Stalker Drone (S-DRN): Mechanical sentry immune to player gaze. It sweeps corridors with radar lines. If it spots you, kill your light, break line-of-sight, and run.

  • Entity-03 (SCP-096): Wanders slowly and remains harmless unless you look at its face. Direct camera gaze triggers a 3.5s screaming fit (heavy screen static), followed by a 15-second hyper-rage chase.

  • Entity-04 (SCP-106): Decaying figure that leaves trails of corrosive sludge. Contact drags you to the Pocket Dimension—a dark, shifting 10x10 maze where your flashlight is disabled and your link decays. Find the exit portal to return.

  • Operator Echoes: Lost projections wandering the Pocket Dimension. They drain your sanity fast if they get close.

CUSTOM RETRO TECH

  • WebGL 2 ASCII Raycaster: Real-time 3D rendered entirely in monospaced ASCII characters. Lighting, depth shading, and shadows are calculated directly on the GPU for a retro CRT aesthetic. Dynamic scaling adapts to any window resolution.

  • Sound & MIDI Synth: Custom audio engine that handles procedural calibration hums, adaptive heartbeats, and classic synthesizer MIDI tracks.

STEAM FEATURE INTEGRATION

  • Steam Achievements: Unlock badges for clean runs, node calibration milestones, zero-flashlight challenges, and stealth plays.

  • Steam Cloud Saves: Syncs persistent upgrades and floor states across different PCs.

  • Steam Leaderboards: Compete globally by posting survival times and high scores.

EARLY ACCESS ROADMAP

Planned updates:

  • New Sectors: deeper compartments of the digitized reactor core.

  • Breach Modifiers: reality-warping settings that shake up speed, visibility, and physics.

  • More Entities: additional Backrooms anomalies with unique behavior sets.

  • Achievements & Trading Cards: more achievements and community rewards.

Liminal Protocol

A retro CRT survival horror game powered by a custom WebGL ASCII raycasting engine. Calibrate nodes, survive anomalies, and climb the leaderboards solo or with friends in Steam P2P co-op. Early Access: actively developing new maps, game modes, and entities. Keep eye contact.
