There are not only miners on the job but also builders. Make sure you set up a proper ladder or two to pull out the goofballs from various dead ends.

Procedurally generated cavern system means that there is always a new excavation to be had in Dwarven Mining Company. Mine everything from Iron to Mithrill.
Make the contractor happy
There is a variety of different jobs the dwarves are needed for. Will you help during a construction of a tradin post? Or maybe rekindling the ancient forge? Whatever the case you are the best man... ekhm... dwarf for the job.
Manage your own dwarven mine. Give orders to miners excavating ore and builders providing them with ladders to get deeper and deeper into the underground. Mine iron, copper and even mithrill to satisfy the needs of the dwarven kingdom for the price of a single coffee.
